Game Recap

The Clay High J.V. Eagles (19-6, 8-5 TRAC) won another close game last night against the Whitmer Panthers who were in 2nd place in the TRAC. This was the Eagles 9th win of the season by either 1 or 2 runs. Clay was led on the mound by Matt Mohr (2.26) who picked up his 7th win of the year for the 3rd place Eagles. Matt battled through 5-1/3 innings only giving up 2 runs and striking out 6 in against a very talented Whitmer team that is 17-4 on the year. Derek Bolander came in to pick up his 1st save in his debut for the J.V. squad. Bolander ended up striking out 3 in an inning and a third of work. Clay pounded out 11 hits on the night against the Panthers ace who had an elevated pitch count very early as the Eagles worked their gameplan to perfection, staying patient at the plate and working into deep counts. Players with multiple hits for Clay were; Grant Spears (.405) went 3-4 with 2 runs, Drew Collins (.463) was 2-4 with a double, 2 RBI’s, a walk and a run. Matt Mohr (.364) also went 2-4 and Nas Delgado (.333) was 2-4 with 2 RBI’S. The Eagles will now finish out the year at home tomorrow (NO RAIN) as they play Central Catholic who is tied with them for 3rd place, but more importantly, Clay has a chance to win 20 games a milestone that has been on the horizon and is huge accomplishment for any team. If the rain holds off please come out tomorrow at 5 and support this team’s success and strive to win!
